Mixed media Christmas card

Catherine Pooler Inks christmas die-cutting holiday blooms leafy backgrounds stencil mix media mixed media PinkFresh Studio spellbinders

Hello there, it is Verity here from Pretty Little Button for the Bumbleberry Design team. I had a real urge to create a mixed media card today, and I wanted to do this with a Christmas card. It isn't necessarily a traditional style Christmas card, more of a subtle nod to Christmas, other than the obvious sentiment on the front. If you're unsure where the start with mixed media, just remember to break it down into layers, building up the card with different media. I went for a white an red theme, as I'm sure you can get some white poinsettias too, so this mixed media Christmas card is not your traditional colours, but a nod to them instead! Let's get started.

Written tutorial and photos for Mixed media Christmas card:

Start by spritzing a piece of watercolour card with clear water, and using Altenew Watercolour Brushmarkes, drop blue and purple colours around the edge. Spritz with more water to help move the colour around, but make sure the middle stays light. Leave to dry or use a heat gun to dry this.
To add dimension, use the Leafy Backgrounds Stencil from PinkFresh studio and embossing paste to apply over the watercoloured background. Here I mixed reinker colours: Deck The Halls, Eucalyptus and Garden Party with embossing paste for the three layers of the stencil. Set to one side to dry between layers.
Once dry, trim this panel down and add to a white card base. Next, use the Holiday Blooms Die from Spellbinders along with White, Cranberry and Pine Hero Hues card stock to die-cut a variety of florals and foliage. Layer these up over the stencil embossing to embellish the foliage.
Lastly, hot foil a Merry Christmas sentiment from the Christmas Magic Hot Foil Plate set from Spellbinders in Matte Gold Hot Foil and add to the front. To finish the card, embellish with gold sequins.
