Alternative way to colour skies - Hero Arts Rolling Hills/Cozy Town

Catherine Pooler Inks Christmas Copic Colouring Cozy Town Die cuts Die cutting Frame Cuts Glitter Hero arts Ink Blending Nuvo Embellishment Mousse Rolling Hills Sequins

Hello there, it is Verity here from Pretty Little Button for the Bumbleberry Design team. Skies are often a feature of many cards, but definitely at Christmas when you're creating winter scene. But you may struggle to colour them, or perhaps you're bored with how you normal colour them. Well, today I'm showing 3 alternative ways to colour a sky rather than using markers or paints! For this card, I've used the Hero Arts Rolling Hills die, and although this has come out in a holiday release, I can see it being used all year round - just change up the scene!

Written and photos Alternative way to colour skies:

Ink blended sky

For this first card, we'll colour the sky with ink blending. I saw someone create a red sky for the Christmas card and that's what inspired me with today's card! Using an Altenew Ink blending tool, the start of blending soft red ink onto a white card base. Blend this up into more darker red ink.  Lastly, to add a little more drama, darken the top with dark grey ink.

Next, die-cut the Rolling Hills Hero Arts Frame Cuts from white card and foam mount onto the card base. Stamp a selection of the houses from the Hero Arts Cozy Town stamp set in Memento Black Ink onto white card. This ink is safe to use with alcohol markers. Colour the houses in and once complete, use the coordinating dies to cut out the stamped images.

Adhere the houses to the front of the card with liquid adhesive and foam pads for variation. Next, heat emboss one of the sentiments from the stamp set and add to the front of the card. Lastly, finish the card with a few gold sequins to mimic falling snow.

 Embellishment mousse sky

For this card we're going to colour the sky with embellishment mousse - this adds texture and movement to the sky! Using a spatula, apply Aubergine Nuvo Embellishment mouse towards the bottom of the scene. Next, start adding Nuvo Cornflower Embellishment mousse above this, blending this into the Aubergine mousse.

Lastly, to darken the sky and add a little drama to the winter sky, apply Old Navy Nuvo embellishment mousse to the top blending this with the Corflower. Don't worry if you don't get a smooth blend as the texture adds movement to the sky.

Again, stamp and die-cut some of the houses from the Cozy Town stamp set and then use your Copic markers to colour them in. Adhere these to the front of the card and stamp a sentiment from the Altenew Happy Holiday's stamp set onto the front of the card. To finish the card off, add Chalkstick Nuvo Vintage Drops to the card mimicking snow.

 Glitter sky

This card was very quick to card to make as the sky takes no time at all! Adhere wide double-sided tape to a white card base. Remove the release paper and add Brilliant Silver WOW! Sparkles to the bottom of the scene. Next, add Gold Dust Sparkle towards the middle and lastly add Copper Fire Sparkles at the top.

Use the release paper from the double-sided tape to help burnish the glitter into the tape. Once complete, adhere the die-cut window over the top. This card uses just the church from the Cozy Town stamp set to finish the scene off.

Another sentiment from the Altenew Happy Holidays stamp set was heat embossed onto black card and foam mounted on the card. This card does not need any embellishments with all the sparkle from that sky!

If you enjoyed today's card, please let us know and we would love to see your cards if this has inspired you.
