Adding the finishing touches

Altenew Altenew dies Altenew Floral Art stamp Altenew stamps Floral Art Gina K Cardstock Gina K soft stone

Hello there, it is Verity here from Pretty Little Button for the Bumbleberry Design team. I have been taking a few more card making classes over on Altenew and this was inspired from the Beautiful details class. There were many ways to add beautiful details to cards, and I really loved the first video of the class by adding finishing touches in a sketchy manner with a pen. Another video from the class inspired me to do some no-line watercolouring with my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush markers. For this card, as I wanted to do some no-line watercolouring, I've used the big beautiful Floral Art stamp set, which is a lovely large floral to colour.

Written and photos - Adding the finishing touches:

To start off, stamp the outline image in the Altenew Floral Art stamp set onto watercolour ink using a MISTI. For no-line colouring, make sure you use a pale ink and one that works with the medium you plan to colour with. Here the image was stamped in Gina K Whisper Amalgam ink.
You may wish to restamp this if using watercolour paper as it has a rough surface. With the beauty of using a MISTI stamping tool, it allows you to restamp right over top without misaligning the image.
For the colouring, start off adding a light colour of ink with your brush marker creating soft strokes as you move out from the inner of the petal. You can use the folds of the petals to add more shadow. Next, use a water brush like the one that comes with the Altenew Watercolour 36 Pan set, so add water to blend out the colour.
Once the lightest colour is added to all the petals and they are dry, then go in with a darker colour and repeat. Keeping do this until you're happy with the colouring. Here I used three shades of pink. After the paint has dried, use black fine liner ben to add loose marks around the outline of the petals. Keep it loose as this adds a nice sketchy and whimsical feel to the flower.
For the background, use a selection of the leaf stamps from the Floral Art stamp set and grey ink to add these to a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock, clustered in one corner. For added variation use first and second generation stamping for different shades of grey. Again, use the black pen to add a sketchy outline to the leaves.
To finish this card off, cut out the floral with scissors or using the co-ordinating die and foam mount onto the card. Add a heat embossed sentiment to the front (this is from the Reason to Smile stamp set) and embellish with a few sequins. Lastly, add the card panel to a card base made out of Gina K Soft Stone cardstock.
If you enjoyed today's card, please let us know and we would love to see your cards if this has inspired you.
